Mining: is there a connection between fool’s gold and real gold?

Fool’s gold, FeS2, is also known as pyrite. It’s not gold, nor particularly valuable…yet, should it be dismissed?

It turns out that gold deposits and fool’s gold can develop in similar situations. Therefore, where one finds fool’s gold, it may suggest that real gold is present as well.
